ASTI PALIO WEEK AND BRA CHEESE FESTIVALS
To celebrate the 2012 September Palio d'Asti week, Villa Sampaguita
is pleased to offer a complete tour package for including accommodation
at our beautiful bed and breakfast just outside of Asti.
The package includes airport pick-up and drop off, accomodation
at Villa Sampaguita, lunch and dinner at selected restaurants, tickets
for the Palio, and a tour agenda designed to let you see some of
the best attractions that this region of fabulous wines and food
has to offer.

Saturday 8th September
Benvenuti

Pickup from airport or train station. Welcome
dinner at beautiful Villa Sampaguita and meet your hosts Tim
Brewer and Rina Vargas with a pre-dinner tasting and an introduction
to some of the lesser-known wines of Piedmont |

Sunday 9th September
Festival delle Sagre,
the world’s biggest restaurant
|
After leisurely breakfast we bring you into Asti to watch
the colourful farmer’s parade, with floats depicting
traditional Piedmont country life followed by al al al fresco
lunch at the Sagre food festival. Time for browsing Asti’s
shops and tasting wine at the Douja d’Or wine festival.

Monday 10th September
Barolo
The king of wines and the wine of kings

Leave at 9.30 am; first stop Borgogno winery in Barolo for
a cellar tasting tour, followed by lunch at Osterie Vignaiolo
near La Morra. Then a visit to nearby Erbaluna (organic) winery
and a tour of the Barolo wine area and visit Alba if time permits)
and back to Villa Sampaguita for supper |

Tuesday 11th September
Northern Monferrato
Wine, Chocolate and La Terre dei Sante
|
Leave at 9.30 am for Cocconato with first stop at Bava
Winery for chocolate and wine tasting followed by lunch at
Cascina Rosengana, and shoppingat Conbipel factory outlet.
Later we visit the hauntingly beautiful Abbazia di Vezzolana,
and an an optional visit to the Basilica of Don Bosco.

Wednesday 12th September
Asti
Medieval City
|
Guided tour of medieval Asti city in late morning, then
free time* for lunch and afternoon.
Dinner at Angolo Beato in Asti, and if you like, more wine
tasting at Douja d’Or. |

Thursday 13th September
Turin
Italy’s Best Kept Secret
|
Leave around 9.30 am and drive to Turin, the old royal
capital of Piedmont and Italy, with its baroque piazze and
many palaces. First stop at the Superga, overlooking the Po
river, Turin and the Alps. Your driver will take you to Eataly
for food browsing and lunch and drop you in the centre of
the old town for shopping or checking out the many museums
and galleries in Turin.
Dinner at Pompa Magna in Asti and then watch Palio degli
Sbandieratori (flag-throwing competition) |

Friday 14th September
Langhe
Barbaresco, Mango & truffle hunting
|
Leave at 9.30 am for the town of Barbaresco with its stunning
views, and a visit to Marchesi di Gresy winery. Lunch at Rabaja
restaurant with panoramic views of the Tanaro valley. Then
a stunning drive through the Langhe hills via Mango over to
Costigliole for a (white) truffle hunt at La Casa del Trifalau.

Saturday 15th September
Free day
|
Free Day. You can putter around the woods at Villa Sampaguita,
go into to Asti for shopping (market day), or we can arrange
another trip for you by mini-bus or train (Turin or Genoa)
for more exploration. Lunch and dinner on your own (we can
provide meals at Villa Sampaguita of course)

Sunday 16 th September
Palio d'Asti
|
Late brunch at Villa Sampaguita. After lunch we bring you
to town to watch the spectacular medieval parade, through
the old town and then take your seats for the heats and final
of the Palio di Asti bareback horse race, first staged in
1273. After the horse racing, time for a last session at Douja
d’Or.

We transport you to the airport or train station. |

Tour Prices: Please contact us for tour prices,
we can accomodate up to a maximum of 14 people.
Of course you may stay at Villa Sampaguita during the festival
week without taking the tour, and depending on space you may join
selected parts. However we can only accept bookings for
the entire period 8th to 17th September
